Labor Day Weekend

For Labor Day Weekend we tried not to labor or work too much.

I guess when you don't have a job that's not too hard! O.K. so I am trying to have a sense of humor about this whole thing!!!

For those of you who may not know - Jim lost his job this week. No fun but we will get through it and know that with the continued love, support and prayers of our family and friends Jim will find an amazing new job soon!!

This weekend we looked for lots of Free fun ideas!

Tessa spent the entire weekend reading for her AP Language class. Poisonwood Bible is the current read.

Saturday morning Jim and I went to the Temple together.

I made a batch of cupcakes for an Open House our neighbors the Atacks were having for their daughter who is getting married.

Jim enjoyed the BYU football game and I even watched the last part of it - go Cougars!!

Tessa was still reading.

Sunday was church and I took dinner to my friend Marsha who had surgery this last week. We then has some Free fun and watched a movie from the library - A BBC mini series about Victoria and Albert.
Monday morning - Tessa was still reading so Jim and I did some Free hiking around the Hoyt Arboretum in Washington Park. Lots of pretty trees!

I even found this really cool looking pine cone!

Since school starts tomorrow we had to do the annual measuring of the children. Since there is only one child at home it didn't take long!
Yes, she had grown - about a 1/4 of an inch. She is now offically 5 foot 6 1/2 inches

Tessa was still reading when we went to a potluck BBQ at our friends the Densleys. I took a yummy roasted corn salad, blueberrry lemon bars and some raspberry/brie bites. I had a few recipes to experiment with for the RS Broadcast coming up at the end of the month.

So that was our Labor Day weekend - Tessa is still reading......

What did you do?

Happy Birthday Jim

I realized I had never posted these photos from Jim's birthday - so it's a little belated but Happy Birthday Day Jim!

We did celebrate his birthday a week late since he was in Alabama on his birthday. We waited until all the kids were home to celebrate.

Jim's favorite cake growing up was a white cake with caramel frosting so that's what I made him for his birthday. When you are as old as Jim is - you need a lot of candles on your cake.

And you need a lot of people to help you light them! Good thing we waited until the kids were home!!

He didn't need help blowing them out though!!
Happy Birthday Jim!
