King's Court - Bucket List Check Off and Seattle Weekend

One of the things on Jim's Bucket List has been to sit in King's Court at a Mariner's Game.  King's Court only happens on days that Felix Hernandez pitches at a Mariner's Game.  If you sit in King's Court you get a special t-shirt

 And you get a big K.  Everytime Felix gets up to pitch you then get to yell K K K K K and hold up your sign hoping that he will strike them out.

It's pretty fun - at least for 9 innings.  When the game went into extra innings (5extra innings to be exact)  yelling K K K K KK gets a little old!

We looked pretty cute in our Long Live the King T-shirts though!

 One of the best things about going to a game at Safeco field is the food - we enjoyed fish & chips, philly cheese steak, kettle corn and of course dippin dots!

We also paid our respects to Dave Niehaus!

It was a fun game even though the Mariner's lost in the 14th inning.  We loved sitting in King's Court!

We found a hotel through priceline and stayed up north of Seattle that night.  Saturday morning we got up and headed back into Seattle to enjoy breakfast at Serious Biscuit - a yummy restaurant that obviously serves biscuits!  Reminds me a lot of Pine State Biscuits in Portland.    We had some great food, including their bacon butter.

 One of the best parts of the restaurant was the chalkboard pig outside in front!

 Not sure Clark believes us but when we got there this is what we found on the pig's behind!  It really wasn't us Clark!!

From the restaurant we went over to the Fremont area and checked out a fun vintage mall where I found a globe for my collection and a few vintage thermos!  It was a successful day.  We then stopped down at Pike's Market to check out the famous gum wall.  In all our trips to Pike's Market we had never seen it before!  Jim and Logan discovered it on their last trip to Seattle so Jim wanted us to see it.

It kind of grossed Tessa out - and to just think it all started with one little piece of gum!!

We then headed South towards Portland.  We made a stop at Lake Merwin where our friends were camping and had their boat.  We spent the afternoon on the lake and Tessa tried her hand at wake boarding for the first time!.  She impressed us all and actually got up after a few tries.  She didn't stay up long but she got up!!

The water was a little cold!

Tessa's friend Davis was very helpful and patient with her and spent the whole time in the water helping her!

We stopped in Battle Ground on the way home for dinner and were ready for bed!  It's been a good Sunday.  I taught the lesson in Relief Society.

Bollywood, Shakespeare, Donuts, BBQ and a Farewell

The title of this post about sums up our weekend!

Friday night Tessa hung out with her friend Rachel Densley while Jim and I went to dinner with Marsha and Larry.  Marsha suggested a new restaurant and as always we were game.

We went to Bollywood Theater on Alberta.  It is Indian food and they actually show a movie on the wall so I guess they can call it a theater.  We haven't eaten much Indian food so really weren't sure what to order so took the advice of Yelp and the person who helped us and  ended up enjoying everything we got!

.It was fun to try some new things and some new flavors.  I couldn't begin to tell you what the name of anything was except for the Shrimp Curry and Chicken Curry.  But it all was yummy!.  From there we headed over to Laurelhurst Park where they were doing Shakespeare in the Park and a performance of Romeo & Juliet.  They really ham it up for a tragedy so it was quite entertaining!

 

 Saturday morning Tessa and I headed out for a little girl time.  We decided to explore the Fremont area and the Alameda neighborhood.  Our first stop was Pip's Donuts.

 They make the donuts to order so they are as fresh as they can come!  We loved the Honey and Sea Salt ones especially but the Cinnamon Sugar were delicious too.  We washed them down with a nice big mug of hot chocolate!

 From there we used our City Walk book but drove around the neighborhood instead of walking - it was a bit cool and raining a bit but we loved seeing all the beautiful homes on the Alameda Ridge.  From there we went down to the Hollywood area and went to the Farmer's Market and then lunch at Atomic Pizza.

We then went home to finish getting ready for the High Priest Group BBQ at our house that evening.  It was a bit sunny so we moved the tables to the other side of the yard for some shade.  Everyone had a great time and it was a beautiful evening.  Lots of good food and company.  Loved having Tom Emmett who is 101 there!!  We are definitely the young ones in the crowd!!  Let's just say there was more than one walker (as in medical walkers at the party

 Today, Sunday we attended church in Tualatin.  Our old neighbor and childhood friend of Tessa, Davis Wilkinson, is leaving on a mission to Australia, Korean speaking.

He gave an AMAZING talk and it was fun to see Davis and his family!  He is going to be an amazing missionary!

 These two were the cutest little play buddies when they were little!!!

Tessa Turns Twenty

So I have to start out by saying I have neglected this family blog for way too long - over a year to be exact!  I blame it on the Wedding Carnival.  Once I started planning it last year it took all my time and attention and once it was over I just never got back into the habit of keeping this updated except for a couple miscellaneous posts.  I have repented though and I am determined to get it back up to date.  So I am going to take my own advice and I what I use to teach all those years in scrapbooking classes and I am going to start current, stay current and work backwards.  Wish me luck!

So July 13th was a momentous day at the Wilkes house.  It was the end of teenagers at our house.  Tessa turned twenty! Kind of sad....  but we love young adults at our house.

 The day started out the way all birhdays start at the Wilkes house - with crepe paper streamers and breakfast in bed.  Even when they turn twenty they want streamers!

For breakfast in bed she ordered waffles!

We then had present opening in bed too.  We face timed with Cali as Tessa opened her gift.

Tessa and mom then headed out for a fun day together.  Because waffles aren't quite enough for breakfast and birthdays are all about good food at our house we stopped at Blue Star Donuts.

 

The two favorites were the Maple Bacon and the Lemon and Lime Curd Filled Donut - yum!!!

 

We then headed to the Expo Center for the America's Largest Antique Show - so fun.  It was huge and a little overwhelming but we found a few vintage hats for Tessa's collection and I found a few vintage frames for mine!

Tessa wanted Thai food for dinner so we tried a new place - Thai Elephant and really enjoyed it.  Tessa got her favorite Tom Ka Soup with Chicken and sticky rice.

Her good friend Katy Jo joined us.  

And because we hadn't eaten enough that day and no birthday can end without dessert we headed down to Papa Haydens.

Tessa went with a raspberry tart and I of course had my favorite - boccone dolce.  Katy Jo had salted caramel ice cream and Jim just had samples of everyones!  The decision process is always a little difficult at Papa Haydens!

 Then the next day, Sunday we had to have the traditional Wilkes family birthday cake for dessert!  Raspberry Cream Cake!

 Hard to believe our baby is twenty!  What a beautiful lady and so proud to be her parents!  Can't wait to see what the next twenty years bring!!
